| Since
its very beginning over 30 years ago in Matale, Sri Lanka,
the Ashram of Swami Premananda has always been a place of
charity and of giving service to the poor. At the young age
of 17, when Swami Premananda became a monk and decided to
dedicate his life to serving mankind, he began taking care
of destitute children, organizing peace walks, feeding the
poor and hungry and giving many other services.
Later, when Swami Premananda came to India
in 1983 and founded the Sri Premananda Ashram near Trichy
in Tamil Nadu, it also became a centre for many large-scale
charitable works.
