Arun (m), Aruna (f)

expresses the quality of the colour red in spiritual terms. Blood is red and conveys the essential life force around the body. The body is the vehicle of the soul and as such we should take care of it. Blood-red is the colour most sacred to the Divine Mother and the name "Sarvaruna" (She who is entirely red in complexion) is the 49th name in the great 1000 names of Mother, the Lalita Sahasranama. Her jewels and clothes are described as red. Shakti's beautiful skin is light red. She is vimarsha, a red reflection of the spark of creation, which first flashed in the pure-consciousness which is Shiva, or prakasha, the great light. The throb of creation is the essence of the cycle of creation, sustenance and destruction. This process is goddess Shakti in her all-red vimarsha form. Arun also means the rosy dawn, the rising of the great sun. Aruna is the charioteer of the Sun God, Surya Bhagavan. Aruna daily carries the splendorous sun that brings light and life to all beings in the Universe.
