Gajalakshmi

Lakshmi is the Divine Mother of inner beauty, spiritual wealth, fortune and power. She is the embodiment of feminine intuition and spiritual strength. Gajalakshmi is a form of Lakshmi dating back to time immemorial. She is the primordial mother of creation seated on a lotus and surrounded by lotus flowers on the waters of life. Lakshmi emerged from the ocean of milk described in the scriptures and as she arose, life-giving sap like that which flows in plants, flowed in all directions giving joy and life throughout the earth. It is said that sacred, wise elephants hold up the sky throughout the universe and they raise their trunks blessing Lakshmi with holy water. Thus She is called Gajalakshmi (elephant Lakshmi), the embodiment of plenty and auspiciousness.
