Prithvi

Prithvi is a name of the Divine as protector of our planet Earth. Prithvi also means the broad or extended (limitless), all-encompassing One. Normally, in our day to day lives we have these feelings for our loved ones or close friends. One who is protector of the earth cares about all living beings without distinction and is supremely compassionate. Therefore, to practise the import of this name, we must open ourselves to the possibility of including, rather than excluding everyone and every being in our hearts. We should develop the art of caring, rather than being indifferent. After some time of opening up like this, we will open in this way to all beings everywhere without separation and without any distinctions. We will wish all beings everywhere a safe, happy and healthy life. We feel responsible and sympathetic to the plight of all beings, everywhere. This does not mean that we have to rush out and try to change the world - but we must do what we possibly can at any time - this may mean a kind word, a smile, help to someone or some creature in times of need or sadness or a daily prayer and meditation for the benefit of others. Prithvi can be given as a name to either a male or female.
